CFFC 144 weigh-in results: Auttumn Norton loses belt at scale; Emily Martins can still win title
Mark Grey, Sean Mora cleared for bantamweight gold in co-main event of Friday's card, which streams live on UFC FIGHT PASS.
TAMPA, Florida – The women's bantamweight title will still be on the line in the main event of Friday's "CFFC 144: Norton vs. Martins 2" event, but only for one of the competitors.
Now former champion Auttumn Norton (4-2 MMA, 1-0 CFFC) lost her belt at the scale at today's official weigh-ins, registering 140.4 pounds for the contest. However, opponent Emily Martins (3-1 MMA, 3-1 CFFC) still agreed to take the fight and after hitting the scales at 135.8 pounds, using the one-pound allowance give in CFFC title fights, she is able to walk away with the title should she prove victorious in a rematch with the only woman to beat her thus far in her professional career.
Norton was fined for the infraction, but the bout will go on as scheduled.
Meanwhile, the night's co-feature sees Mark Grey (7-1 MMA, 5-1 CFFC) and Sean Mora (6-1 MMA, 0-0 CFFC) square off for vacant bantamweight gold. The two made their bout official without issue and then had quite the spirited faceoff, though they saved any real fisticuffs for the cage.
The night's only other weight miss took place in a planned featherweight bout on the evening's preliminary card, as Jaylon McDaniel (2-1) came in at 146.4 pounds. He was given an additional hour to make weight but declined and was fined for the miss. Opponent Tommy Laipply (1-2) was 145.6 pounds, and the matchup will go on as scheduled.
The CFFC 144 main card streams live on UFC FIGHT PASS, while prelims stream on OnlyFans. Limited tickets remain at CFFC.tv.
